In a Writers’ Workshop this summer, students of All God’s Children at the Sinkor School in Monrovia wrote and illustrated stories.  Donations of old blue books, colored pencils, hours of editing and teaching from Paul Spadoni and the Liberia Mission Team, and the student’s creativity made these stories possible.  Many of the stories tell of deep hardship and enduring strength, so typical of this beautiful country recovering from years of devastating civil war.  The values of education and faith resonate in their stories.  Below are excerpts from Fumba the Lucky Refugees by Kebeh Fayiah.

“Once there was a boy who live in Monrovia with his parents.  One morning there was a loud gun sound no one knew what was happening.  From that day all of the children stop going to school.  Fumba’s Father called his family in the house and said war has come to Liberia.  Mrs. Jagba said what are we going to do?  Mr. Jagba said I will look at the free port for a ship that will be leaving to any safe country.

Why look at the free port one night some bad soldier enter their house and put them out of their own house and take away their food and money they have for the next day.  Early the next morning Fumba Father left his house and went at the Free port for a ship that was leaving that day.  When they reach at the port they sat for a long time before the ship came.  They get in to it and they saw some of their neighbor and ask them.  Where are you going?  They say we are going to Nigeria.  And what about you?  They say we are going where this ship is going.  One week later Fumba enter the refuges school.  Every morning his mother could carry him on the road to wait for the school bus.  At the end of the year he took first place in his class.

My name is Kebeh Fayiah.  I am eighteen years of age.  I live on 9th Street, Sinkor, Monrovia, Liberia.  I in the seven grade.  I love singing and my favorite color is blue.

Text Box: Prayer Focus
Text Box: Join us in praying for the health and safety of our children and staff in Liberia and India.  Continue to pray for the container paperwork to come through for Liberia.  We have many supplies to send.  And pray for funds to build a security wall around Ankoor Children’s Home in India to keep pedophiles from kidnapping the children.  Sadly, this is a major concern.
