Vision and mission India
Serve the Children partners with Hosanna Ministries of India to operate the Ankoor Children’s Home in Lasina for children from impoverished tribal villages. The Children’s Home is not a hostel or a boarding house, but a true home where children are cared for with motherly love and concern. The Ankoor Children’s Home was established in 2002.
We are now also partnering with Genesis Charitable Trust to build a school in Vyara on the west coast of India. Read more about the Vyara project.
Vision and Mission:
Our work in India is designed to allow underprivileged and underdeveloped children the opportunity for a better life. We assist with their physical development by providing secure shelter, food, clothing, and physical activity. We offer a loving, caring, Christian environment where Christ’s love is shared and taught. While living at ACH, the children attend local schools, gaining a practical education that is unavailable in their home villages. Our hope is that the children at ACH will grow and develop physically, intellectually and spiritually into true followers of Christ who can rise above the oppressions of class in India and improve the lives of their own families and children.
About the Ankoor Children’s Home
Ankoor Children’s Home is located in the village of Lasina in Central India. We currently serve approximately 80 children at ACH from 4 - 15 years of age. Children are provided a balanced diet, personal hygiene supplies, beds, clothing, and school supplies. A local physician provides medical care for all of the children. ACH offers extracurricular activities in embroidery, crafts, cooking, and library. The children hold regular competitions in music, Bible quizzes, and games.
upcoming mission opportunities
Outside the town of Vyara on the west coast of India, a nine hour drive north of Mumbai, STC is partnering with Genesis Charitable Trust. The young men who make up GCT have a vision to help poor tribal children in the area and have started a school for them in a small village named Thuttidevalpada, where twelve children currently receive care and an English speaking education in a small house made from wood, bamboo and mud that we converted to a school. These men were once village children themselves, and they continue to sacrifice their time, energy and finances to give other children the opportunities they have received.
There are problems to overcome. Most of the parents in this village go out to work all day, or drink too much alcohol, and the children do not have a chance to come to school. Many parents do not understand the value of education. Most are uneducated themselves and do not see that they are being cheated by higher caste people as a result. In spite of these hurdles, plans are going forward to build a school to serve the villages in the Vyara area, where parents have asked for education for their children. Through generous donations, we have purchased three acres of land about 3 miles from Thuttidevalpada, and a traditional mud and dung structure will be built on this land hopefully in 2009. In the future, we will raise funds to build more permanent structures consisting of school buildings and dormitories, with running water and electricity.
