October 2005

We are truly blessed by your continued support of our ministries in Liberia, India and Indonesia.

We have some exciting news about our container shipment.  Funds have been released from the State Department for container shipments of humanitarian aid.  I have applied for two containers to leave the US for Liberia this year; a 20 foot container from St Louis and a 40 foot container from Tacoma.  I have enclosed a list of items that we are collecting for the containers at the end of this newsletter.

Are you thinking about Christmas yet?  Join us at the Magical Night of Giving at the Super Mall in Auburn or the South Hill Mall in Puyallup on Sunday night November 6, 2005.  The malls will close at 6pm and re-open at 7pm for a special sale.  Tickets cost $5 for the Super Mall and $10 for the South Hill Mall and all of the proceeds from the ticket sales go to Serve the Children.  Plus we get a percentage of the sales that night, which are divided between the other non-profits attending.  The malls will have special pricing for us, door prizes, a $5000 drawing, free gift wrapping and Christmas music.  Contact Kara at kara@gigharborcpa.com for information on the Super Mall site or Doug Stave at dougstave@comcast.net for information about the South Hill site.

Liberia- Tricia Joos, our Education Director emailed the following report about what is happening at our schools in Liberia. At the Sinkor school, we have administration, support staff, and 24 teachers with a Morning school offering Pre-school-9th grade to about 500 students and an Afternoon school offering 1st -8th grade to about 475 students.  Our other school is in 15 Gate by the Firestone Rubber Plantation, about a 45 minute drive from Monrovia.  We have 6 teachers along with administration and support staff at 15 Gate serving almost 300 students from K-6th grade.  All of this is possible because of people’s student sponsorship and donations (thank you!).  The schools begin with an all-school devotion time then classes.  At recess, students receive a free meal of bulgur wheat and some sauce.  We supplement as much as possible with protein (beans/fish). Students receive medical assistance by a local clinic, Paracom.  AGC schools are unique in that they are free to students.  We have great needs for more support to expand our teaching capacity and build/renovate buildings to hold the students/staff.  We turn away hundreds of kids.  I can’t tell you how devastating it is to see children selling water and popcorn on the streets instead of learning how to read, or girls in their late teens in our Kindergarten classes.  Pray for the children and staff.

India- Kiron Gaikwad, the director of our operations in India, reports that the children are getting ready for their 1st semester examination. Rain still continues which has caused damaged to the crops in the field. Thank the Lord for protection around the children.

Sincerely,

Doug Collier
